The game itself, Louth really competed for 25 odd minutes against a GAA high power.
We were well set up at the back, held our shape, retained the ball well and our scores were well worked.
A sloppy goal right on the half time whistle was disappointing but there were plenty of positives there.
There looked to be a structure to our play and certainly defensive wise. Bodes well for Division 4.

Derek Maguire
A lot people were asking me was it a typo, was he really wingback? He was wearing number 7 but actually played as our sweeper and he also played there against Armagh too. So far he’s played really well there. Derek has the pace to cover the ground and facing the play he can drive out of defence.
Could be a coincidence, but once he went off before half time we looked a wee bit vulnerable and went on to concede 1-5 before we regrouped at half time.

On Summary, the O’Fíaích cup has served Louth really well personnel wise…
6 debutants came in and didn’t look out of place, fringe players gaining game time ahead of the O’Byrne cup also.
On top of that, you’ve the likes of Daniel O’Connell, Keith McLaughlin, Cathal Bellew, John Bingham and Gea McSorley not rookies, but not regulars all back in the mix and finding their feet with little or no pressure on them.
So competition for places is right up there I’ll have a squad list tomorrow.
